A small study in the UK looked at the effect of consuming green tea extract on skin exposed to UV radiation.
14 fair skinned people took low doses (equivalent to about 2 cups of green tea) of extract for 12 weeks.
The catechins in the tea were incorporated into the skin, giving a protective effect from the inflammation of sunburn.
