A 4 month Montreal study of overweight middle aged people found high intensity interval training had some exciting benefits.
Interval training involves doing aerobic exercise – alternating between going flat out for 30 seconds and then walking or jogging for 30-120 seconds.
The program comprised 2 sessions of interval training and 2 session of resistance training a week for 4 months. The results:
- significant increase in insulin sensitivity
- decreased waist circumference and visceral fat
- increased brain oxygenation
- significant cognitive improvements – such as memory
