A researcher at the University of Adelaide has found a particular type of mistletoe extract to be more potent on colon cancer cells than chemotherapy while being gentler on healthier intestinal cells.
Chemotherapy can result in severe side effects such as mouth ulcers and hair loss.
The researcher tested 3 types of extract. The Fraxini mistletoe extract was also able to increase the potency of chemotherapy.
Mistletoe is used as an alternative therapy, but yet to be clinically trialed. This study is an important first step in assessing it scientifically.
