Researchers at the Imperial College London have finally gotten around to examining whether it is better to focus on assisting healthy cells to stay healthy is more useful than targeting leukemia cells directly.
Dare I say that this is the strategy most natural health practitioners take (focusing on increasing health, immunity and the bodies own defenses) rather than the track current medicine seems intent on which says “lets focus on disease- if we eliminate disease we are left with health”
But I digress.
The research discussed in the article from Medical News Today used models to look at competition between leukemia stem cells and haematopoietic stem cells in bone marrow.
These models traditionally look at what happens when animal populations compete for food sources. The purpose of this research model was to find conditions to reduce the number of leukemia cells.
The researchers were surprised by the findings (why am I not surprised) that taking care of the healthy cells was more likely to eradicate the leukemia cells.
