Dramatic Loss Of Body Mass In Cancer May Be Controlled By The Liver

Up to 70% of cancer patients suffer dramatic weight loss which itself causes an estimated 20% of cancer deaths.

Researchers at Heidelberg University investigating the cause of this wasting believe it originates in a central gene switch in the liver. When they were able to silence this switch in mice, normal functioning resumed, giving hope that this sometimes fatal wasting can be controlled.
